Lenten services this year have been impacted by Elder Board’s availability to lead the entire series. However, by member request, we’ve revisited this, and would love to continue it with member’s help. We’ll base each service on Luke 4:18-19, together with other supporting Scriptural readings, and dig deeper into those verses and what they mean for us, in light of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. An elder will start the service and provide an outline for worshipers to dig deeper into Scripture. We’ll begin this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

If you have been to our church, chances are you have met one of our gems. John’s intentional heart for people is obvious when he walks up to you with his hand out, sincerely asking you; “how you are today?” He is so inspiring and amazing to watch as he makes his way around any room greeting and blessing everyone with his genuine love. This is who he is, and it is impressive. We could all take a note from how he loves people. I know for me personally, his example encourages and motivates me to try to love more people.
Shortly after joining BSLC in 1978, John with his wife, Trish, noticed there wasn't a Sunday School class for their toddler son... so, they started one, which remains a vibrant ministry today. Throughout his time with BSLC, John has generously responded with a yes when there was a need. He's served in most areas including Congregational President, Evangelism, Mission leadership and as an Elder. Today he sees his role as one of encouragement and prayer. He prays, regularly and fervently for countless people here and around the world. His hearing may be diminished, but his heart to love and encourage and pray has not. Thank You Jesus for sharing John with us. We love you John, keep being you. In October the church family gifted me with some resources to care for my soul and to expand my leadership. These are the newest books on my list to dig in to.
Discipleship continues to be a big focus for us. I respect this author a lot and like his focus on addressing people who don't think church is relevant anymore, not with lights and music and fun events, but with a beautiful, sacrificial commitment to Jesus. I've noticed the growing cultural voices around transgender issues (who hasn't) and the corresponding lack of much input or thought from the church. I've been reading and praying and talking around transgender questions for a few months. I hope soon to provide at least some draft ideas for the church to chew on. I keep running up against people who are pointing to trust, so i thought I'd see if I could understand it better and become intentional about building it. I'm going to use this book first with the elders and see if we can develop a high-trust environment among leadership. Then we will see where it goes from there. Thanks for inviting me to learn and grow and lead. Pastor Pete |
